What is Ghibli Park?
Ghibli Park is scheduled to open in “Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park (Moricoro Park)”.
Three areas themed on Ghibli, a famous Japanese animation, are scheduled to open on November 1 2022 !
Actually, I did experience “Ghibli’s Big Warehouse (ジブリの大倉庫) and ”Hill of Youth (青春の丘) ” before open.
The open areas will be
“Ghibli’s Big Warehouse (ジブリの大倉庫) ”
“Hill of Youth (青春の丘) ”
“Dondoko Mori (どんどこ森) ” .
After 2023, the KiKi’s Delivery Service area and Princess Mononoke area are scheduled to open.
The Ghibli Warehouse is like a hands-on museum.
Visitors can experience various aspects of the Ghibli world.
The Hill of Youth is theme of whisper of the heart.
You can actually see, hear, touch, and smell the “Chikyuya” that appears in the anime.
“Dondoko Mori” is theme of My Neighbor Totoro.
You can experience Satsuki and May’s house.
The house is made in old Japan style and is a very realistic reproduction of the house in the anime.
Let me show you what kind of atmosphere we’re talking about!
“Hill of Youth (青春の丘) ” 〜whisper of the heart area~
The Hill of Youth is theme of whisper of the heart. You can also experience a bit of the world of The Cat Returns. The symbolic tree in front of the "Chikyuya (地球屋)" and the slightly retro atmosphere that appears in the anime are recreated. My recommended is "Chikyuya (地球屋)" You will feel as if you have entered the animation.
Exhibits can be touched and drawers can be opened. On the first floor, there is a baron figurine and a marionette clock that recreate the interior of the store as if it were the real thing. No pictures are allowed inside "Chikyuya (地球屋)" , so you'll have to go and experience it for yourself! In the back of the store is the dining room and kitchen. In the kitchen, open the drawers, open the fridge... interesting! Don't miss the marionette clock! It starts moving when the time is right. In the basement, Seiji Amasawa's violin work space is recreated. The smell of wood is fragrant, and wood shavings are scattered under the workbench. Souvenirs may be purchased in the form of postcards. Postcards can be dropped off at any area post office box and will be original postmarks and delivered to you. (As of October 23, 2022)
In the outside area, visitors can experience a bit of the world of the The Cat Returns. Take a peek inside her cat-sized home!
And don't miss the pay phone next to the entrance!
Put your ear to the receiver and ...! Come and experience it for yourself!
Ghibli’s Big Warehouse (ジブリの大倉庫)
“Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse (ジブリの大倉庫) ” is a great place to enjoy various Ghibli works!
The area is also a great place to purchase souvenirs and enjoy a meal at a cafe.
They renovated a facility that was originally a heated swimming pool.
Depending on the location, you can enjoy just strolling through the atmosphere of Spirited Away or Arrietty the Borrower!
You can also eat Siberia, a sweet that appears in “The Wind Rises”.
Siberia is a sponge cake (Kasutera) with red bean paste sandwiched between two pieces of sponge cake.
You can choose between smooth-anko (Koshi-anko) and Grain-anko (Thubu-anko).
I did chose smooth-anko (Koshi-an) !
If you want to have more lunch, it will be a atranscontinental flight ”大陸横断飛行”.
Sandwiches and drinks of your choice are available.
Original flags on your sandwich!
You never know which character it will be!
Mine was Castle in the Sky Laputa!
And you can even drink Italian beer!
“Narikiri Photo Gallery （なりきり写真館）”
The main exhibit is the “Narikiri Photo Gallery”.
You can take pictures of the experience of being a part of famous Ghibli scenes.
Find a scene you like!
There are many other spaces to enjoy, including exhibits and storyboards of the works.
Souvenirs, by the Adventure flying group (冒険飛行団)!
Original and limited-edition products are also available.
Also, popular souvenirs may be out of stock...
It was before opening, but it was very crowded and took about 3-5 hours to see everything. I suggest you allow plenty of time! And since we didn't go to Dondoko Forest, Next time!
